introducing: Clair Reynolds
Clair Reynolds (yes, that’s me, I’m not so keen on introducing myself!) joined Len on his ‘abstract retreat’ for a week in Leura in the Blue Mountains, Australia. I’m a fan of flowers and loved visiting the different gardens on a mission to abstract reality. In particular, I loved that we kept coming across waratahs, in the gardens, but also by the side of the road and in the wild. These majestic blooms form the basis of my series of work that appears in this issue of the journal.
Len says: “Clair’s work has been inspiring me for a long time. It inspired me to get an infrared camera and to do my own experimentation. Here she shows us a very different side of a Waratah. Waratahs are so unique here in Australia, with their unusually large red heads. Clair steers away from what we expect and shows us incredibly beautiful form, and a lovely abstraction of colours. This forces us to look harder, to see if we can recognise it. It asks us questions about our assumptions. And, as always, she delights us with a visual feast of beauty”.
