into the wilderness
Cyan and I woke up at Whitewater Wall yesterday, after a lazy few cups of tea we visited Blue Stone Bay too. This is at Coles Bay in Freycinet National Park, Tasmania.
I know I have shown you this photograph before. This one is from a trip down to Tasmania about twenty years ago. So here is one I took on the evening we arrived there.
Do you like to visit places that have significant memories? I definitely do. I even visit my photographs. I first climbed on Whitewater wall with Tim Carol and John Higgins after we had rafted the Franklin River. That was probably 25 years ago now. That trip is full of amazing memories and one I can’t wait to do again, this time with a camera or two and some creatives.
We climbed the slab at the back there, on the other side of the ramp and the big blocks. Stunning climbing. The height of that wall is a bit missleading in this photograph. It’s sixty meters high.
Cy and I went for a day walk over to Wine Glass Bay and back via the Hazards. I had forgotten it was my birthday, so did Cyan, but as we rounded the bend into reception birthday wishes from Victoria and later the family flooded in. Do you ever forget your own birthday? lol. I wonder if that’s a first for me?
I didn’t forget to get myself a gift though. A monochrome camera will be ready for me on my return to civilisation at the end of the month. No more colourful temptations for me. Lol. As you know I have many more cameras than I need and yes I’ll still have colour ones.
This image is of Wine Glass Bay. I took that about twenty years ago I guess with film. It has a blue / sepia split tone that I used at the time to hide the inadequacies of my printer.
Tomorrow Cyan and I walk into the wilderness. We are walking the South Coast Track. We are starting at Cockle Creek and walking to Melaluca. That’s about 90 kms. I suspect we will do that in six days, but we may go slowly and do it over eight. We have time to wait out bad weather or for flooded creeks to subside. At Melaleuca we pick up a food drop and explore Bathurst Harbour and the South West Cape for a few more days before flying out. I hope to run a photography tour out there in the future, so hopefully I can show you how beautiful it is.
So it feels like a good time to be walking into the wilderness. The news is so tiring at the moment. Just when we thought we had some respite back it all comes again.
It is also time for a holiday. The last long one was a year ago. So with these words i down tools for a couple of weeks. Clair will do some posts and I have managed to do some in advance. I’ll let you know how we go with our walk out into the wilderness when we return at the end of the month.
Enjoy, and create lots won’t you. I will be doing the same.
