I spent a few days at Kangaroo Island years ago after a particularly memorable photography tour in the Flinders Ranges. We had visited Arkaroola and were blown away with its rugged landscapes, amazing rocks and beautiful trees. Graham, was our second driver on that trip, and it was with him that I went to Kangaroo Island with. I must return there.
Kangaroo Island is a particularly diverse yet compact environment. The interior has been cultivated and the local produce has earned a fine reputation. I can only guess it’s the clean fresh air that blows across the Great Australian Bite. There are rugged granite cliffs, boulder strewn beaches, rolling pastures, sweeping sandy beaches, sand dunes and plenty of forest around the edges.
Kangaroo Island is blessed with relatively few feral animals, much to the delight of the local natives.
There is always something rather special about the trees in South Australia. They remind me of the Heidelberg School of Australian painting, that I never understood until I visited South Australia and witnessed in person. Kangaroo Island is no exception. I found this wind blown tree on the banks of a salt lake. So many twisted and bent trees, full of character.
Short Lens is something new. A trip to spoil you on with everything included from the nearest airport. I will pick you up, take you to our accommodation, spoil you with food. I hope to inspire you with presentations and teaching. We go out photographing at every opportunity, and get to the locations in their most ideal light.
We travel in the off season so we aren’t inundated with other visitors and maximise our chances of being alone. We aim for soft gorgeous light.
So before I even announced Kangaroo Island Short Lens, three booked in. A few spots remain if you’d like to join us.
