First day of the last workshop for this years Master Class. We met last night at one of the three houses we are in to a beautiful home cooked meal by Annie. Was absolutely delightful. It’s the sixth workshop in this year long course. An amazing group and it is incredibly sad to be finishing up for the year. Some things you don’t want to stop. I am giving myself a break next year, but hopefully I can find another amazing group in 2021. https://www.lensschool.com/workshops-tours/lens-master-class-2021

You can see there work next week at Tap Gallery. The opening is exactly a week away at 6 pm on Tuesday 17th Dec. A fantastic show is being put on. The other room in the gallery features my focused lens students. Equally as amazing and will be missed.

12-6 pm daily 17th Tuesday to 22nd Sunday December at Tap Gallery level 1. 259 Riley St
Surry Hills, NSW 2010
Sydney, Australia

Artists talk Sunday 22nd Dec 2 pm with yours truely.

We hang on Monday if you must see it before the opening.

Todays photograph is from the darkroom. It is such a pity darkrooms and photographic chemicals don’t agree with me. I come out from them so dizzy and with such bad headaches. I sometimes lament with romantic intensity how great they were. But unfortunately the reality is so different. I embraced digital printing over twenty years ago, and have dabbled in darkrooms occasionally in the mean time. We honestly just do t get on.

Etching studios full of air, light and a physical press are a different mater.

Not many accomplished photographers improved when they transitioned from film to digital. I am proud to say I clearly did with my monochrome work, yet probably didn’t with my colour. Such is life.

Atm I can’t remember where I photographed this. Perhaps pebbly beach on the south coast of NSW. Photograph and text copyright © Len Metcalf 2019
