Out of Darkness

Out of Darkness

Today we are revisiting the work of Alister Benn. This image was featured in Len’s Journal Volume 2, Issue 1. We certainly started this year with a fantastic range of photographers, Alister included!

Since then, Alister has been busy turning this portfolio of work into his own book Out of Darkness which he released at the beginning of last month.

Mental health can be a difficult and often taboo subject to approach for many. Yet, with his book, Alister shows us how he uses his creativity and his art to address this in his own life. We are privileged that he shares with us the captivating images that he has created as a result of these explorations in both the Gobi Desert and his own mind.

Alister tells us that, “I tell the story using both words and photographs, finding meaning and metaphor in lines, contrast, and mood. As I began to externalise my anxiety through the aesthetics of emotional engagement I gained a new perspective which shocked me; I finally understood myself and could move forward. This book is both a metaphorical and literal journey: Out of Darkness”.

This is Alister’s first photo book, if you enjoyed his short series in Len’s Journal, then you may like to head over to his website and have a look at his new book: Out of Darkness by Alister Benn
