I am so pleased to announce next years Abstract Photography Retreat at Leura in May 2021.

Many of you won’t know, but Leura is my home town. A place full of fond memories. Of snow thick and deep in the front yard. My birth place. Actually my mother and fathers first place of residence was a mere few hundred meters from the old Leura Dairy in the same street. So it will be incredibly special for me to launch our retreat series in my home town. As you can imagine I know the area like the back of my hand.

Shirley Steel and I have been working on an abstract workshop part two for a long while now. What we have come up with isn’t really a part two though. It’s completely new and rather different to anything we have done before. We started with the premise of what would we like to go on to take our abstract photography further? The answer was a retreat. To be in a facilitated environment that stimulates amazing work. A safe environment that makes us feel supported, so we can push ourselves and take bigger risks. Of course we take the elements from our teaching that we know works and love, so much will be familiar, as we hope we will be.

Shirley and I are both stimulated and find art inspiring. So we thought we’d bring you to the heart of the NSW’s first City of the Arts, and introduce you to the artists and their work in various mediums that will blow your mind away. Imagine having dinner with an inspiring painter, then seeing their work in person and hearing about how they find their inspiration and about their creative practices? I can and it’s exactly what I’d want to do.

Imagine being taken to fantastic locations at the height of autumn colour. The intense oranges and yellows of exotic gardens and streets lined with trees turning for winter preparing to drop their leaves. Imagine staying at a venue so visually stimulating you actually don’t even need to leave to create amazing work. Or how about being a stones throw away from the largest town in the mts full of fantastic urban material for abstract photography.

What about a retreat where you actually have time to return to that stimulating location to photograph it again?

How about a retreat that has an exhibition built in. Yes we will hang a show as the final event of the retreat. That means you will be printing exhibition quality prints during the week.

This is the place to take your work further. Experienced or still getting your head around abstract photography this is for those that would love to take their abstract photography further. Both Shirley and I are there and available to teach and mentor you. We will also stimulate you with our work and work of others in our amazing presentations too.

An all inclusive retreat at a luxurious eco venue. Your own private room. All your meals catered for. There is nothing better than the intense pleasure of being totally immersed in a live in retreat.

Places are limited. We take COVID seriously too and will follow our Covid safe plan as outlined by the NSW government.
