A series of nine, a January challenge

Over this past year I have managed to put out a weekly exercise at Len’s School where a lovely community of photographers have developed. The work they have produced and grown over the year has been phenomenal. I am proud of myself and of those that have participated. It’s taught me a lot about online teaching and learning.

For the last exercise of the year, no 52 I hope, I thought it would be great to put out the challenge to create a series. A challenge that may interest a few more of you.

I have decided to add an incentive. So will offer some two hour mentoring sessions, via the internet or in person, to three of the participants who attempt this exercise that their work talks to me. I will also print these three and post them to the photographers on one sheet of A2 paper as a complete series.

The challenge is to create a series of nine photographs in January 2020. To outline what you will try beforehand. When it’s finished add it to the comments in the exercise description, with a title and an artist’s statement.

The most important rules are that all nine photographs must be taken in January and that the nine must all talk to each other.

After the month I will hold a webinar where I discuss and give feedback on the entries. This will go for an hour or two. Record it and post it for future reference.

You can find the details, further instructions and rules at:

You will have to be in it to take your chance in getting one of the three rewards. Yes it’s a lucky dip, but it’s a fun and rewarding one.
