Blue
“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”
– Maya Angelou
I have been working on a Series called “Rapsody in Blue”. The idea was to exhibit with Julie Fox a very dear friend whom took up painting later in life. She decided to start, went down to the art shop bought some paints in colours that spoke to her, her favourites no doubt, a few canvases and brushes, went home and started. Learnt by doing, by painting. Wow. Her story is inspirational.
So in our planning we decided to work on a water based blue theme for a show. It has been a very very long slow process for this old Monochrome artist to work up a series of Blue themed water based abstracts. The bottom line is that I have. I am not sure if this one is part of it or not yet.
It is always like that. I just keep adding to it and never make the final selections until it’s time to print. Actually I even print one at a time and let the prints tell me which one needs to be next.
I notice with some of my students that they hang on to favourites way to much in this processs. Don’t. It’s the final series that counts the most. How they talk to each other. If today’s photo doesn’t talk to the others in an appropriate and informative manner, then it’s out.
