Flannel Flowers

Flannel Flowers

“The more you photograph, the more you realise what can be photographed and what can’t be photographed. You just have to keep doing it.”

- Eliot Porter

Flannel Flowers. Tash poses in a swathe of flannel flowers on the North Shore of Sydney. Taken with a large format camera on 4 x 5 inch bw film. The final print is a handcrafted polymer photogravure in a limited edition. I took this photograph early in exploration of the human figure. So it really is one of the first nudes that I feel is resolved. I created the photogravure years later, which is printed in an etching press through an intaglio process. Apparently, photogravures are considered one of the most beautiful photographic prints available. For me I find platinum / palladium prints made from contact prints equally mesmerising, just as I do my digital prints from my inkjet printer. Photograph copyright © Len Metcalf 2018
