introducing: Ellie Young
Ellie Young hails from Victoria, Australia. Ellie loves to focus her attention on alternative processes, so much so that she set up Gold Street Studios to teach others her craft. Her work is full of texture, passion and depth, bringing to the viewer her respect and love of the natural world.
Len says: “I first enjoyed Ellie’s salt prints at the Myer Gallery, run by Mary Myer in Sydney. They enchanted me with their gorgeous presence. I had the pleasure of meeting Ellie at her photography school, Gold Street Studios, when I attended as a student to study traditional copper plate photogravure with Bill Moseley. If you wish to study alternative photography processes I can wholeheartedly recommend studying with her in Trentham. It is such a pleasure to share with you some of her current work. Still life is something I personally struggle with, and am always mesmerised by people who master it. Ellie certainly does, and the rendering in such traditional media takes me backwards in time to processes that were almost forgotten. Timeless and handmade are important descriptive terms we must use with her work. Beautiful and fascinating also come to mind”.
