In reply to: bencoope posted an update in the group Critiques I cant decide which is better, the tall one is obviously more worked but do the diamonds i have brought out add or detract (can you even tell)? ViewI prefer the 1st one as I find myself exploring the image more in the foreground because there is more of it and so more lines to follow around.
In the second one I find the foreground more confronting as its darker and more defined, plus your pulled thru the image quickly – is my feeling.
Great image.

In reply to: Anne-Marie Seve posted an update in the group Critiques Decided to post a triptych as I couldn’t decide between image 1 & 2 but then 3 sort of completed the set what do y’all think?? . .
the originals needed […] View
Really like #1. Its totally abstract so you can just enjoy going around the image without having to think about what it is.
For #2 & #3 you can tell what the image is so you are deciding whether its a good photo of a screen. I feel if they were more abstract like #1 then you’d just enjoy them. I agree with Nicole about the lights in #2 and I…[Read more]

nice, like the framing and the water movement.

The swirling and falling soft water in this image is amazing… such lovely forms and colours. Nicole and I have been discussing this image, and we stuggled with the where the forground rock meets the midground rock (just past the hole). You could raise the camera slightly higher when taking the photograph and put some more white space inbetween.…[Read more]

In reply to: bencoope posted an update in the group Critiques A re-load of some macro images from my garden. First time taking macro plant images. ViewHey Ben – finally took some shots of the cactus garden I see!
I really like the composition of the 3rd image.
I found with my succulent photos that I had to play with the tone alot (add some more black) to really get a good range of tones across the image. May I suggest you do the same for your first 2 images? I think you’ll like the change it…[Read more]

In reply to: Monica Bailey posted an update in the group Critiques: I’m trying some painting with light images. There were alot of misses but I think this one is a hit. ViewHi Geraldine
It wasn’t so much a technique as playing around!
I had a 60mm Macro lens on. I set my camera to f8 and a 2 second exposure (on a tripod) and manually focused on the black backgroud. I set it off by timer and held a piece of cellophane in front of the lens and had a torch in my other hand and just flashed it around then quickly…[Read more]

Beautiful picture Monica… I love it…
i like it monica, but the strong straight lines in the top left hand corner really create a rigid structure in the image (makes me notice all the straight lines and angles) that im not sure of (not sure if im making sense either) mabe cropping closer or panoramic.
But i do Love the longer exposure and the water movement you captured is awesome.
Yeah thanks for that Ben … now I’m noticing it too!
gorgeous image!
Luv the sheer veils of water & the echo of that vertical fall by the lacework of bare twigs to the right.
Nice detail in the mosses. . .
